Tuesday Beauty Poll: SAG Awards Fab-Off

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012
By Glinda

What happened to Monday?  Did it really already go by without me noticing?

Tsk. Tsk.

It seems that skin care was the big winner in the money-spending sweepstakes, with 25% of the vote.  Next came mascara with 16%, and hair care at 13%.  Foundation, lipstick, and beauty tools all received 11%.  I’m going to say that I am most willing to splurge on a really expensive lipstick.  If you are new to this blog, then hello, you should know that I adore lipstick.

Since the Golden Globes fierce-off was so popular, how’s about one from the SAG Awards?  My hat is off to both of these ladies, they looked fantastic!  So hard to choose!

Product Review: philosophy’s The Microdelivery Exfoliating Body Wash

Friday, January 27th, 2012
By Glinda

Meh.

I received this as a Christmas gift because my family knows I enjoy a good exfoliator.  I’m not sure if this is a good thing that they know this or not, but hey, if it gets me free stuff then I’m all for it.

I like my exfoliating washes, especially for the body, to be thisclose to being painful.  You see, in my irrational mind, if I can’t feel the top layer of skin being removed as I use it, then it isn’t any good.

In this department, The Microdelivery  does not deliver.  Actually, I’m not even sure how this could be considered to be even mildly exfoliating.  Whatever the things are that purport to be scrubbing your skin are VERY soft.  Therefore to me, FAIL.

And, unlike many philosophy products, this doesn’t even smell good.

So I find using it to be a colossal waste of time, because if it doesn’t at least smell good, then I’ve got much better things to do.

But for those of you who enjoy fooling yourself into thinking your washcloth has fantastic exfoliating properties, then this just might be your thing.

Things I Covet: Guerlain’s Rouge Automatique

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012
By Glinda

God, I am a total sucker for gimmicks like the capless, only one hand needed for application lipstick from Guerlain.

Why, of course I can think of a thousand different situations where I would only be able to use one hand to apply my lipstick!

While holding my toddler!  While driving!  While romantically holding my husband’s hand as we walk in the park!  While playing Angry Birds! While, uh, typing! And drinking!

Ok, you’ve got me.

But I still want it.

Things I Don’t Do: Bronzer

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012
By Glinda

Well, that’s actually a lie.

I have been “doing” bronzer for a very long time now, and I desperately want to move away from it and into some actual color, especially with spring and summer coming up.  I live in a sunny, warm climate so I don’t look like a complete idiot wearing bronzer in November, but I’m just over it.

Yeah, I could turn to Nars’ Orgasm, but that seems just so cliched.  Besides, what with my lipstick and eyeshadow choices, a peachy blush wouldn’t match as well as something pinky.

I’ve been considering Benefit’s Bella Bamba, but I don’t know if I want the gold shimmer.  I tend to prefer matte blushes and then if I want to pump it up a notch, apply this.  Pumping it up has not been happening a lot lately, unless you want to count doctor visits, which I don’t.

I’m even thinking of branching out into a cream blush, although historically they have caused me to break out.

What’s your blush brand of choice?

Monday Beauty Poll

Monday, January 23rd, 2012
By Glinda

It was quite close, but SWINTON! won out over Angelina, with 58% to her 41%.  I think it was an awfully hard choice, actually, but I probably would have chosen Angelina just because she doesn’t normally look so great on the red carpet and she was throwing some serious face in that photo.  But my love for SWINTON! is undying.

I got a Sephora gift card for Christmas (surprising to no one) that is just sitting in my purse.  I’m thinking that instead of being all level-headed and practical, I’m going to throw caution to the wind and use the entire balance to completely splurge on one or two items.

Even though I don’t do crackle nail polish, for some this might be just the thing for the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations.

How I Turned to the Dark Side, and Loved It

Wednesday, January 18th, 2012
By Glinda

When I first found out I was going to have a biopsy that came with major surgery, I was bummed.

I suddenly felt the need for change.

So where did I go?

Well, I still need to go to Sephora, but I went right to my hair salon.

I’d been falling into the trap of using a lighter dye on my hair in order to camouflage the gray.  The more gray that would come in, the lighter we would go.

It looked OK, but I was starting to get major zebra stripe once my hair started growing out, and I choose color weaving specifically to avoid that type of thing.

I looked at that dark band and bam! It hit me that instead of trying to play the blonde-ing game and winding up looking like an OC Housewife, perhaps it was time to return to my roots.  Literally.

We took my color much darker, and she did a very fine weave, as opposed to a chunkier one so that I would get the maximum amount of dark color.

If I do say so myself, it looks rather fabulous.

It brings out my skin tone more, my green eyes pop, and now I can venture toward darker eye and lip makeup without feeling like a painted trollop.

And can you see my grays?  Well yes, but they actually look kind of good and help to give my hair a nice dimension.

My young padawans, do not be afraid of the dark side!

Celebrity Red Carpet Smackdown

By Glinda

Apologies, my lovelies, for the sporadic posting as of late.  Things in my life have taken a rather weird turn in a couple of ways, and I’m trying to deal with them as best I can.  Let’s just say I will be going under the knife in a few weeks to biopsy a possibly cancerous growth.  And that’s just ONE of the things that is going on, and not even the biggest one.

Yeah.  The fun never ends.

So, the Golden Globes happened the other night, and I didn’t watch.  But of course I saw the pictures the next day and I found these two ladies to be the most striking of the night.  But which one wins?

Hello Kitty Year of the Dragon Compact

Thursday, January 12th, 2012
By Glinda

Limited edition gold compact to commemorate the Year of the Dragon.  It is also inscribed with the Chinese characters for Happy New Year.

I don’t know. I do not have any Chinese ancestry, so I’m not sure if this would be a cool cultural thing, or a cultural misappropriation thing.  I’m leaning toward misappropriation?

Although I do know that it is not the year of the Golden Dragon, so I’m not sure why the compact is gold. It’s a water dragon year, so silver probably would have been better.

Lancome Roseraie des Delices for Spring 2012

By Glinda

Very pastel, very soft, ultra feminine.  What interests me the most is the green, in all the different forms, especially the lip gloss.  I need to get to the store, stat!
