Monday Beauty Poll

Monday, April 30th, 2012
By Glinda

Well, most of you (44%) found yourselves in a somewhat hesitant approval of Kelly Osborne’s purple hair and lips, with 18% in enthusiastic approval.  I’m in with you guys, for some reason it didn’t look hideous.  The rest of you disagreed, and one kind soul clicked on my joke of wanting some grape juice.  Thank you, person who took pity on me!

Today I’ve got some more celebrity looks for you to judge…

Friday: Opposite Sex Appreciation Day

By Glinda

It’s been a tough week.

This makes me feel better.  And maybe a bit tingly.

Because after a while, I can only look at so many photos of women!  And I say that in a very loving way!

Beyonce the Beautiful

According to People magazine, anyway.

Well really, who could argue?  Beyonce is definitely a stunning woman by almost anyone’s definition.

I love the color composition of this photo, but what is with her hair?  Is that truly the best they could do?  Also, I’m wondering if they could have gone with a bolder lip, although I know they were trying to avoid a clash with the necklace and bracelet.

So what say you?  Do you agree with People’s choice?

Product Review: Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment

Having heard the hype about this lip balm, I was excited to receive it as a “birthday gift” from Sephora.  Of course I had to buy something to get my gift, but whatever.

Well, I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t quite live up.

It does go on nicely, I will give it that.  It also has a screw-on cap that makes it perfect for purses.

But that’s about all.

I’m not a fan of lemon scents, so it immediately gets a minus from me on that, although some of you may love it.

I don’t find this product to be long-lasting in any way.  If there is one thing I look for in a lip balm, it is that I don’t have to keep reapplying it.  For me, this stuff lasts for about a half hour, and then my lips feel as dry as if I’d never put anything on at all.  BIG minus.

Chapstick will save you a bunch of money and works better.

Or, if you prefer pricey balms, I highly recommend this one.

Monday Beauty Poll

By Glinda

55% of you wear sunscreen on your face only on “normal” days, which probably include being at work or picking the kids up from school or whatever.  For most, it isn’t exposing your skin to lots of sun, go good for you for being in the habit.  35% apply none at all, which I think is OK as long as your sun exposure is limited, amirite?  10% of you apply it everywhere, and your skin is probably going to look the best in the next 20 years.

Today I’m curious as to what you think of the latest look sported by rockstar spawn Kelly Osborne.

Not Exactly Beauty Related…

But as someone with a strong affinity for color (I HATE white walls! Minimalist I ain’t.) this site is pretty dang cool.

Inspired by the iconic “Winter Capri” print from the Pucci archives, this capsule collection is available at Sephora for persons in their Beauty Insider program.

Dude, I am a sucker for those pretty ribbons hanging off the kohl stick.

Things I Don’t Do: Colored Mascara

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012
By Glinda

I know, I know.  Based on my penchant for plummy-colored eyeliner, I’m fairly positive that I would look good in some plum mascara.

But, I’m not 100% positive.

And it just hasn’t really been on my radar to go and find a nice plum colored mascara and try it out.

I just might be scarred from the 80’s, when I did brave some blue mascara (SO HOT at the time) and thought I looked great.

Except in retrospect, I’m sure I didn’t.

I am well aware that the pigmentation on mascaras is much different here in the 2000’s, and the only time you are going to get neon blue mascara is if you are purposely looking for neon blue mascara.

As much as I hate to say it, I’m thinking that maybe 41 is a bit old for colored mascara.  A trend best left for the young ‘uns, as I had a go of it on the first round.

What say you?  Is age just a number and flaunt that purple mascara no matter what?

Fish Eggs, Anyone?

A company called Ciate has come out with something they call a “Caviar Manicure” which contains micro-breads for a very 3-D effect.

Eh, I’m not sure.

As a commenter on the Sephora site said, “It looks like you rolled your hands in some nonpareils.”

So, 25 bucks a bottle for your nails to possibly look like the top of a cupcake.

Also, SO not digging the fact that the black polish (for lack of a better term) is called Ghetto Fabulous.

Don’t Tell Me, Madonna

Friday, April 13th, 2012
By Glinda

Reportedly, Madonna has spent a bunch o’ money on some special type of facial machine.

I’ve always been an admirer of hers, but I wish she would drop the fight against aging.  It’s a no-win situation, my dear.

But it’s also a sad statement that if she DIDN’T attempt to turn back the clock, everybody would be all over her for having wrinkles. They already make fun of her body, which is very taut from her workout routine, but also a bit tendon-y for the same reason. Of course, she has never fit the “classic” beauty mold, but plenty of people find her attractive, and rightly so.

Being between a rock and a hard place is no fun.

Although I’m guessing that being mega-rich and famous might make up for that a little bit.
