Things I Covet: Chanel Collection Paris-L.A. Palette

Wednesday, May 30th, 2012
By Glinda

That right there? It looks mighty tempting.

Chanel’s multi-use palette, dubbed Paris-L.A., consists of 2 lip glosses, 1 lip color, 3 powder eyeshadows, 2 cream concealers, 1 cream blush and custom applicators. I’m not  sure why they are touting the applicators, as most people usually throw them out. The colors seem a bit too fall-ish, but if they work for you, it seems like the perfect travel palette.

Not that I’m doing much traveling lately, but even if I were, I’d probably balk at the price tag.

Tuesday Beauty Poll

By Glinda

I hope your holiday weekend was better than mine, as I wept copious tears from being reprimanded not once, but twice, for misspelling the word “fluorescent” on last week’s poll.  Damn these embedded polls and the lack of spellchecking thereof!  And why yes, yes I was too busy dealing with sick husbands and children to look the word up, so you will have to comfort yourself with the fact that I don’t think I will ever misspell that word again, simply due to trauma.

I kid, of course.

Well, it seems that not ONE PERSON is completely into fluorescent makeup, which I find interesting, indeed.   48% of you deemed it a trend worthy of only your nails, if that.  17% denied it a place at all, and 33% of you were bitter that it managed to resurrect itself from the 80’s.

I was going to feature something else, but ducklings, it has been a very long week.

So, enjoy Mr. Noah Mills frolicking about on a sailboat, the very thing you will be doing this holiday weekend, no?

Also, I’m well aware that I’ve been featuring men that look a lot alike, and I promise I will be bringing more diversity in the upcoming weeks.

And call me weird, but I really like it when men aren’t wearing a shirt, but are wearing a watch.

Things I Don’t Do: Hair Extensions

By Glinda

I don’t really know why, either.

It has truly never crossed my mind to put any kind of extensions into my hair, even though I have to say that my hair is not exactly luxurious.

I don’t judge anyone that does put them in, and most of the time, unless they are colored, I don’t even know that they have them in at all.  I just tend to automatically be jealous of all the people with long, beautiful hair and don’t stop to pause to think if it’s real or not.

I know that it’s a big Hollywood thing, and I know lots of regular people do it just to have a little fun or add some color that can be instantly removed.

I guess I’m neither glamorous OR a good time.

Just ask my kids.

Happy World Goth Day!

They are just a seriously misunderstood bunch of people.

But their impact on hair, eyeliner, and guyliner cannot be understated.

Tuesday Beauty Poll

Apologies for the lack of polling, but when 50% of your family is down with a fever/flu thing, then not too much gets done.  Don’t worry, I neglected my housework, too.

The subject of bangs split 41% of you into the “love them” group and another 41% of you into the “love/hate” group.  17% didn’t like them at all.  I have to say I am in the love/hate category, because on some people, they just don’t look right.  Other people, however, can wear them beautifully.  My forehead is actually extremely low, and although I have had bangs in my past, I think I look better without them.  I’ve been bangless for over twenty years at this point, which sounded a lot dirtier than I intended.

Today I want to know how you feel about about a current makeup trend….

What’s New: Sephora Pantone Universe Palette, and a Little Mini-Controversy

Thursday, May 17th, 2012
By Glinda

I got an email today about this new Sephora “nature inspired” palette.  Right now only V.I.B’s (Very Important Beauty Insider=You spend entirely too much money at Sephora)  can purchase it, so I went to look and see what the fuss was about.

Well, when I looked in the comments section, there are a bunch of annoyed V.I.B’s who learned that other (we assume randomly selected, although no one will cop out) V.I.B’s got this palette for free and are giving it wonderful reviews.

The non-comped people are saying that of course the freebie-receivers are only saying nice things about it, presumably in the hope that they will continue getting free things.  Some of them are even saying that since Sephora was so unfair in their goodie distribution process, they will boycott the product altogether.

Hmmm.

I can sort of see their point, but really, it’s just a palette, people!  It certainly wasn’t possible to send a free one to every single V.I.B., and as long as the process was random, I guess I’m OK with it.

What about you? Fair or unfair? A big ado about nothing?

See What I Mean???

Jennifer Lopez, who is normally very beautiful, was apparently shoved into a janitor’s closet and had her makeup applied by a nearsighted ten year old.

Kudos to the young lass for at least not messing up that waterline, (thanks, SarahDances!) hideous as it may be.

Monday Beauty Poll

By Glinda

39% of you think Christina Ricci’s Met Gala outfit is the best of the cray-cray, which I have to say is surprising.  23% backed Karolina Kurkova, and 20% of you were rooting for fabulous dame Linda Fargo.  I personally voted for Florence Welch’s Alexander McQueen.

Meanwhile, Ivanka Trump’s big bangs, which made their debut at the very same event, are prompting some debate.
