Things I Covet: Dior Grand Bal Holiday Collection

Wednesday, September 12th, 2012
By Glinda

I don’t know about you, but the picture of the nail polish almost makes me want to drink it.  It’s like I’m mesmerized and can’t take my eyes off of it.  Probably some sort of subliminal advertising.  But I’d still buy it.

Things I Don’t Do: The YSL “Facebook” Palette

Tuesday, July 24th, 2012
By Glinda

OK, OK, so it isn’t really called that, rather it is the ‘Devoted To Fans #1’  palette, which actually sounds a even more awkward.

I’ve spoken before about beauty and commercialism, and even though I understand the palette will only be available to YSL Facebook fans, (thus the color scheme) it still seems a bit crass.  Of all the things in the world for a beauty product to be inspired by, Facebook would be the last thing on my list.

I do like the colors, and I’m sure my dislike of the product is completely irrational.  Perhaps my toddler’s brand of logic has been rubbing off on me.

It’s just that I like my luxury brands to at least attempt to maintain the illusion of classiness, and this one doesn’t quite cut it.

Things I Covet: Chanel Collection Paris-L.A. Palette

Wednesday, May 30th, 2012
By Glinda

That right there? It looks mighty tempting.

Chanel’s multi-use palette, dubbed Paris-L.A., consists of 2 lip glosses, 1 lip color, 3 powder eyeshadows, 2 cream concealers, 1 cream blush and custom applicators. I’m not  sure why they are touting the applicators, as most people usually throw them out. The colors seem a bit too fall-ish, but if they work for you, it seems like the perfect travel palette.

Not that I’m doing much traveling lately, but even if I were, I’d probably balk at the price tag.

What’s New: Sephora Pantone Universe Palette, and a Little Mini-Controversy

Thursday, May 17th, 2012
By Glinda

I got an email today about this new Sephora “nature inspired” palette.  Right now only V.I.B’s (Very Important Beauty Insider=You spend entirely too much money at Sephora)  can purchase it, so I went to look and see what the fuss was about.

Well, when I looked in the comments section, there are a bunch of annoyed V.I.B’s who learned that other (we assume randomly selected, although no one will cop out) V.I.B’s got this palette for free and are giving it wonderful reviews.

The non-comped people are saying that of course the freebie-receivers are only saying nice things about it, presumably in the hope that they will continue getting free things.  Some of them are even saying that since Sephora was so unfair in their goodie distribution process, they will boycott the product altogether.

Hmmm.

I can sort of see their point, but really, it’s just a palette, people!  It certainly wasn’t possible to send a free one to every single V.I.B., and as long as the process was random, I guess I’m OK with it.

What about you? Fair or unfair? A big ado about nothing?

But as someone with a strong affinity for color (I HATE white walls! Minimalist I ain’t.) this site is pretty dang cool.

Very pastel, very soft, ultra feminine.  What interests me the most is the green, in all the different forms, especially the lip gloss.  I need to get to the store, stat!

Glinda’s Great Gift-Giving Guide for the Beauty-Loving People Amongst You for $50 and Under

Monday, November 28th, 2011
By Glinda

It’s that time again! The time where I give some sage advice on things you can buy for those with an appreciation for the specialty of this blog.  And all under fifty bucks!

Beautyblender Makeup Sponge Applicator (2)

For those that prefer liquid foundation/concealer, I have heard nothing but fantabulous things about these applicators.  A bit pricey, but supposedly worth every penny.  Definitely something to give someone who probably wouldn’t spring for it themselves.

Gal Pal The Original Retro Ice Bag

Ladies such as myself will remember that this type of ice bag was pretty much the only game in town when we were kids.  And you know, I kind of miss them because they really did have a nice shape to them that made it easy just to plop it where it was needed.  Comes in lots of cute designs, too!

THE NEW BLACK ‘Graffiti – Ombré Nail Shades’ 5-Piece Set

For the more adventurous nail enthusiast, everything they will need to create the perfect ombre look.  Or not.  That’s the beauty of this gift, because the colors still rock even if they don’t use them as originally intended.

Makeup Studio Blockbuster Palette

Not sure what colors they might like? This palette is guaranteed to have at least a dozen or so, seeing as it contains a whopping 197 products.

M.A.C Iced Delights Lip Bag

Three full sized M.A.C. products for a great price. And a bag to boot!

L’Occitane Verbena Harvest Perfumed Sachet

Nice, natural sachets are hard to come by any more.  This is one of the best.  And who says you have to buy just one?  Makes a perfect hostess gift.

Fekkai Chez Moi Gift Set

I’m a big fan of pretty packaging, and the box for this collection of Fekkai hair products is touted as a collectible.  Inspired by  Aix-en-Provence, France, this is the first year of a new series of gift sets from the company that brings you nice hair.

Stila Lip Glaze Holiday Set

I’m of the opinion that you just can’t go wrong with this set.  You can quote me on that.

Me! Bath Mini Bath Ice Cream Gift Set

Get a bunch or get just one!  These bath fizzies are a fun, unique gift.

Sephora Deluxe Fragrance Sampler For Her

Another almost can’t-go-wrong gift.  And a teensy secret is that if the receiver doesn’t like any of the sample fragrances, they can pick out any one in the store that has the approximate value.  Or, you could do aLash Sampler, or a Sampler for Him.

e.l.f. Palette for $3.50

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011
By Glinda

Now when I first saw this deal, I was really excited.  I thought that e.l.f. was offering a very large palette for $3.50.  I mean, they ARE, but you have to spend $25.00 to get that price, and I have to say that kind of annoys me.

I wouldn’t call it a true bait-and-switch, but still.

I’d like it better if they just tossed it in for free if you purchased X amount of product.  I just like free things better than things I have to pay for, even if it isn’t a whole lot.  Does that make me wrong?

A long time ago, I remember when Lancome used to give out free baguettes (and maybe a tote bag) for purchasese over $50.00, or something like that.  Bread, for god’s sake, and I recall hordes of women hitting the counters. They don’t do that any more, do they?  Tells you how long it’s been since I’ve shopped at a department store for makeup.

But, here’s the link in case you are interested.  Oh, and you’ve only got a few days left.
