Lipstick Obsessions: Guerlain’s KissKiss

By Glinda

Have I mentioned that I am a total lipstick whore?

Lipstick is my go-to cosmetic, the one where if I’m not wearing any other makeup, I will still insist on applying some to at least show that I’m trying.

I am notoriously fickle in my lipstick loyalties, flitting about from one brand to the next, looking for that something better around the corner.  I have a few brands I wind up going back to, but I’m always looking for a new fix.

My current new fix is Guerlain’s KissKiss Maxi Shine Lipstick in Cherry Shine.

It’s almost perfect.

First of all, I love the packaging.  I always appreciate when the company makes at least part of the tube with mirroring capabilities, because a girl is not necessarily always mirror-adjacent when she needs to look good.

Second, it’s got exactly the right balance of shine, color, and transparency.  It’s not matte at all, and has super-fine flecks which give a beautiful glow to your lips without making it look like you stuck your mouth in a glitter pot. For me, the cherry color is totally complementary to my skin tone and hair, and my husband actually said, “Wow,” when I first put it on in front of him.  And trust me, the man has seen more than his fair share of liptsticks.

Guerlain had been out of the lipstick market for a while, but being acquired by cosmetics giant LVMH gave it a bit of new life, and almost all of their products look lovely.

I highly recommend the KissKiss line and look forward to trying the other lines of lipstick from Guerlain.

Because I’m a lipstick whore like that.

Sadly, Guerlain is off my list of possibilities after the bizarre racist remarks from its founder (http://bit.ly/afz0BC)–he’s not associated with the company, apparently, but I just don’t feel comfortable giving money to anything that shares his name. Shame–this sounds like a nice lipstick. Good thing there are others!

Oh yuck, I had no idea. 🙁

First of all, there is nothing quite so happy as finding a new lipstick that reallly rocks, you know? Like accessories, lipstick can change your whole look no matter what clothes you are wearing.

Second, Glinda, I’m so glad you have this new blog up. I cried this morning because I have so much work to do and I have no idea how I am ever going to get it done, and so looking at the Manolo’s shoes and your lipstick–though certainly not work, I admit–put a smile back on my face. Thank you thank you thank you.

I really, really want to love lipstick, but I have a large mouth and full lips (as well as big eyes) so when I do lipstick I tend to look like Ronald McDonald. Thus I haven’t experimented a lot and don’t know what type of lipstick I should be looking for. Any ideas?

I Love my Prescriptives LipShine lipstick. It’s pretty much the only stuff I use now. Online they only show it in one color 🙁 but I’m pretty sure they have more in store.

@Lisa- Oh Lisa, I hope you are doing better! I’m glad we could brighten your day even just a little bit.

@KESW- Do you mind if I make this a post for next week? I’ve got too much to say to reply in the comments!

  7. La Petite Acadienne Says:

I buy a lot of lipstick but tend to not wear it all that often, mainly because I’m a lazy git who can’t be bothered reapplying it. Plus, my cheeks are naturally very rosy, so I have to be cautious with lipstick colours to avoid looking like a painted tart.

  8. Kimberly Says:

I have small lips with no color to them, so without at least some colored gloss, I look dead. And not in a good, gothy way.

How pink is this cherry shade? I’ve been wanting to try the Kiss Kiss lipstick but I’m a redhead and lipsticks all turn too pink on me, so I’m pretty much limited to coral, copper, or brownish shades. I’d be scared to buy something with “cherry” in the name.

And yes, EVERY lipstick case should have a mirror on it somewhere!

I love lipsticks too. I am not aware of how many I seem to accumulate, though–so when the day of realization finally arrives and I’m confronted with the exact number of tubes I’ve amassed (and much worse, the way I seem to like to buy the same few shades with only slight variations between them) I’m always shocked. On the other hand, it’s good to “shop my collection” for a while instead of going out to find more.

I love the design of this Guerlain lipstick case you’ve shown, and the colour looks like a good subtle every day/every occasion shade. (Yes, sometimes I’ll find a colour I like in a lipstick product and buy it just because I love the package–other good ones to try are the old YSL gold “box” lipsticks and Pupa lipsticks from Italy, with their innovative mirror-inside-the-lipstick-case design).

Whatever the colour is, though, you can find its equivalent in any price range. At the moment my every day shade is a $1 Rimmel shade called “Crave”. I know Chanel makes a Coco lipstick colour that’s almost exact, called “patchouli” (though the Crave is just slightly more pink). Maybe that’s the appeal–it’s a lift that’s just so accessible.

  10. Glinda Says:

@Kimberly- I wouldn’t say it is very pink at all. I was actually hesitant to try it because it seemed a bit too red for my tastes, but the sheerness of it makes it all better!

@LPA- I highly doubt you would ever look like a painted tart. 😉

@aurumgirl- You are right, there is almost always a cheaper equivalent that is close enough. I’ve not tried Rimmel, but have heard lots of good things about it.

@JessicaD>- Prescriptives makes some great things! Glad you’ve found one that makes you happy! 🙂

Everything Guerlain makes is awesome. Their perfumes are among the best in the world, and the Meteorites were revolutionary when they brought them out.
