People Names Jennifer Lopez Most Beautiful Woman
By GlindaI’m trying to decide how I feel about this.
I’ve always considered Jennifer Lopez to be a very beautiful woman. How could one not? She’s got gorgeous hair, fantastic skin, and a killer bod.
On one hand, I think it is rather awesome that they chose someone who is over the age of 40 and not some dewy-faced young thing. Because the young things, they can’t help but be dewy, bless their hearts. But for a 41 year old to look dewy, now that takes some effort. Unless you are like me and have naturally oily skin, and then it just takes forgetting to apply powder. But still, it doesn’t look quite the same.
And yet, I don’t have warm feelings for Ms. Lopez. She’s never come across as authentic to me, and she almost always seems to have her bitchface on. Or maybe the Fug Girls have irrevocably clouded my judgement, I don’t know.
And yet again, it is very nice to see some diversity on the cover, is it not?
What say you? Yay or nay for Jennifer? Or am I just being naive and it is all about whose publicist does the best job?

I say it’s all about demographics, when they’re choosing an “icon” for the people (and not, of course, when they’re using the adolescent, emaciated, white “beauty ideal” to sell product). The largest sector of society right now are the aging boomers–people Jennifer’s age and a little bit older make up the largest number of that sector that is still (theoretically) bringing in full time income, with much of it “disposable”. The generation coming up is much smaller; the older end of the boomers and their parents have less money to spend and they’re thinning out.
So if they hope to pull in the largest number of magazine buyers/site visitors with cash to spare for goods, someone from that huge age group will be chosen as the most beautiful, because the appeal has to be to that demographic. It helps that she’s a kind of Latina cross-over, too, and that we’re seeing her everywhere–from the Fug Girls to American Idol, all the time.

I think the fug girls’ ribs on her are hilarious! I disagree with you about her coming across as bitchy. I feel pretty neutral on her; I hardly read about her behavior, either positive or negative, in the tabloids. But I thought that People mag’s most beautiful person referred only to their shallow outer beauty, not their deep inner beauty. And with regards to J Lo’s outer beauty, I think she is absolutely gorgeous. Although I liked her look better earlier in her career when she had dark, shiny, curly hair, and still had that famous bum!

I think it’s fitting that she was chosen. I was just saying to someone the other week that when I watch American Idol and it’s Jennifer Lopez’s turn to speak, I often just sit there thinking, “Wow, Jennifer Lopez is so pretty.”
