Monday Beauty Poll

Monday, December 3rd, 2012
By Glinda

My last poll asked how you felt about Rita Hayworth’s 40’s hair, and it was split pretty evenly between lurve and lukewarm.  Me, I’m a big lurve on that one.

Hey, have you heard that eye crystals are trying to be a thing? The above was taken at Dior’s Spring 2013 runway show.

Things I Covet: Dior Grand Bal Holiday Collection

I don’t know about you, but the picture of the nail polish almost makes me want to drink it.  It’s like I’m mesmerized and can’t take my eyes off of it.  Probably some sort of subliminal advertising.  But I’d still buy it.

Things I Love: Dior Addict Lipstick

As I continue the inexorable aging process, I have come to find that matte lipsticks are the enemy.  The older I get, the chalkier they look against my skin, and that is a look that does me absolutely no favors.

Enter Dior Addict.

I recently purchased this product in Diorkiss, which is billed as a “sheer dark pink.”

Why yes, yes it was.

But what I like most about this lipstick is its reflective properties.  I adore the shimmer this product imparts, and nary a fleck of sparkle anywhere.

To me, this is the major drawback with the flecked lipsticks, wherein the flecks tend to migrate after a while.  Like, to right on my chin.  I love the way they look, but not necessarily after eating a sandwich.  Maybe it’s just me?

Which brings me back to Diorkiss.  This particular lipstick shade has no flecks, the shine is all from whatever secret (and with my luck, probably toxic) material they put into it.

But I love it still.

Due to its light nature, this product can and will wear off sooner than a matte lipstick.

It’s a tradeoff I’m willing to make.

Oh Dior

I cannot for the life of me decide if this is cool or intensely stupid.

I like the music, though.

Things I Covet: Dior Rouge Dior Holiday Collection

By Glinda

I have already admitted to being a complete lipstick whore, and one of my favorite brands ever is Dior.  I’ve been wearing Dior lipsticks for close to twenty years.  While I don’t ALWAYS put on a Dior every time I go out of the house, there is always at least one in my current rotation.

Dior is coming out with a 2011 Holiday Rouge (and Vernis, but those I’m not discussing today) collection.

Apparently the lipstick is infused with a gold dust that sort of melts on contact and gives a lovely sheen.

Swoon.

I am a complete sucker for shiny (but not too shiny!) lips.  I don’t think I currently own any truly matte shades and it’s been a preference of mine for quite a long time.

I find myself wanting to spend some money on at least one of the limited edition shades.  Even though, you know, I’ve got stuff like Christmas and my daughter’s birthday and other things that are calling out to my credit card.

Sigh.

Things I Covet: 2011 Lady Dior Palette

By Glinda

Well, well, Dior is certainly coming out gangbusters this year with the collectible palettes, are they not?

As a tribute to the Lady Dior bag, as modeled with the beautiful Marion Cotillard, Dior is releasing a beyond-exclusive palette.

Of course, methinks nobody in their right mind would actually use this palette, as one tiny swipe would likely ruin the whole thing.  But, I appreciate the workmanship and artistry that went into the making of each palette, which was all done by hand.

What do you think of “collectible” palettes?  A really cruddy investment? Fine if you’ve got the money to burn?

And, I wonder exactly how long a makeup palette would last, anyway.  I’m guessing that to keep it in prime condition, you wouldn’t open it if you could help it.   Otherwise, I would be afraid of something happening to it.  If I spent that much money, I’d be paranoid that even a tiny bit of exposure to oxygen would hasten its demise.

Dior Mitzah Collection

By Glinda

Coming to a Sephora near you in August and department stores in September.  This collection is an homage to Dior muse and creative director Mitzah Bricard, who was known for her penchant for leopard patterns.  There is also an eyeshadow palette and a brown DiorShow mascara which completes the collection.

I’m kind of loving the dark nail polish, but I think the lighter one would look quite hideous on me.  As for the palette pictured, I’m not sold.  I think it is lovely to look at, but I wouldn’t want to own one as a collector’s item.
