Today I’m all about nails. Gel nail polish, that is. You know, the kind that lasts up to three weeks without needing a touch-up and requires an ultra violet light in order to set properly?

Mostly I’m a “no” because I don’t do my nails at home, ever. I’m too lazy and too much of klutz to do my nails myself.

My BFF and I got each other the things necessary to do these manicures at home for Christmas. Now we get together and play “nail shop” every month or so. Yay for still playing pretend!

So, Babs, these manicures really look good for three to four weeks? My only hesitation in buying the whole enchilada is that I have been victimized by non-chipping, long lasting nail products in the past.

How long they last depends on how fast your nails grow and what color you get.
I wore them for about 2 months up to and after my wedding recently, as they kept my nails from chipping as I was growing them out to look nice, and I only managed to chip one once, due to accidentally slamming my hand into a metal latch on a restroom stall. When I had a dark color on, it took about 2 weeks for the new uncolored growth to start bugging me, while a neutral color that was similar to my nails took closer to 3 weeks. My manicurist said that she has some clients who go for 4 weeks, but she said they always get neutrals.
My problem, and the reason I’m not continuing to use them except for special occasions like my wedding, is that the removal process involves, after soaking in solvent for a while, filing the dregs off. Which thinned out my nails enough that they’re chipping and splitting left and right, and will probably do so until the filed-off portion has grown out.
