I just can’t, with the gimmicky nail polish. On little girls the crackle polish can look charming, but even there I draw the line at “nail art”. Life is hard enough on manual dexterity that there should be a fashion for people to do the simplest tasks while worrying if some piano or bong charm is about to yank off the top of their fingernails while they’re pressing the “chop” button on their food processor.
But a gorgeous, fresh manicure with a rich shade of red? That always looks great. You can always add “gold” and good fortune for the New Year with great jewellery.
